Kyoto 2

Kyoto (京都 Kyōto, 京都市, Kyōto-shi,)

Walking the old world alleys of Kyoto transported me to a place of curiosity, where my sole mission was to peel back her murky grey layers and uncover the colour beneath her stoney streets. Down each narrow winding path was doorway after doorway, each one fighting for attention, begging for you to choose its frame. Every building, every sign, every person who enters old town is choreographed into her dance. Movements are structured, fluid, disciplined, raw, beautiful, every element of her performance is in unison, and no one has ever rehearsed. Everywhere you looked within this city was an intriguing and curious mystery.

If you were lucky enough in the late afternoon a geisha would appear. As quickly as a shooting star disappears from the sky she's gone, but the colour from her kimono, captured by last light from under her coat, floods the damp opaque stone streets with infinite colour for the night.

This piece is a romantic uncovering of my mysterious love story with an Old Town dance full of winding streets, infinite doorways, and the corner of a giesha's gown.
